The Grand final wa played on the large garden set. More fun for the spectators and more exercise for Alexander and Henry, the finalists.
Girls {Watkins sisters} were well represented on the top boards.
Chess is serious business.
Some spectators in the distance
These young players are fairly new to competition chess. I trust we will see a lot more of them.
Perhaps this is a new concentration strategy. There were plenty of chairs available at the Brisbane Ladies Croquet Club.
That will do for this event, I hope to see all the players and a few more at our next “First Sunday” event in May. Details will be announced soon.
Coaching
Doubleroo offers coaching at our Albert street academy.
On Fridays we cater to unrated players up to around the 600 level. We will cover topics like basic strategy, tactics, endgames and notation.
Tuesdays are for players over 600 who already have mastered using the clock, keeping score and play in competitions regularly. The focus will be on opening study and complex tactical themes.
We will be open from 3pm-6pm on these two days. Cost: $25 per day or $200 for the 10 week term. For further info please email info@doubleroo.com.au
Thanks, Alex
