On Sunday we held our first “Running Chess” knockout competition. Those eliminated went into the Rapid {15 minutes} competition. In retrospect the format was a little complicated and we were not optimally prepared. For example, I did not know exactly how to make the knockout pairings. Luckily sports fan George Withers did know and made the pairing board thereby saving the day . Thanks George.
Very professional as you can see. Outside we could have arranged the clocks and boards better. As it was at least one game ended unfortunately as Jason Wang lost a winning game { mate in one} by pressing the wrong side of the clock. Despite these mishaps most players seemed to have a good time. Have a look at the quarter final.
The final was between Aleksander Dessus and Henry Slater -Jones and Alexander won a thriller. Third was Thomas Yang. Michael Ostapenko won the Boys U10 prize and Fynnigan Keaveney-Jones the Boys unrated prize. The Girls prizes were dominated by the Watkins sisters {Australian Polgars } with Sophie taking out the Girls prize and Rachel the Girls unrated.
Thanks to David Gray who did an excellent Job as Director of play and Brodie McClymont who helped DOP, manned the tuckshop and magically appeared wherever needed. Also I would like to thank the parents and their children for coming.
Stay tuned for some pictures.
Cheers, Alex
