The World Championship Candidates Tournament in London has not even reached the halfway stage and already the two favourites have opened up a 1.5 point lead on the rest of the field.
What is remarkable is how they both won their games early this morning { Australian time}. Levon Aronian was Black against world number four Teimur Radjabov and Magnus Carlsen was Black against six time Russian Champion, Peter Svidler. The parallels were amazing. In both games white played without great ambition and without any attempt to seize their fair share of the centre.
All games can be viewed on the Flash Viewer here http://london2013.fide.com/livegames/flash/index.html
Svidler never got any play and was struggeling by move 20. Radjabov pushed his kingside pawns but never looked like doing more than creating weaknesses. After defending desperately he succumbed on move 53.
My favourite part is the live commentary of Nigel Short. Unfortunately it starts at midnight so for the next week or two I will not be getting enough sleep but you can view all the rounds and the post game interviews with the players here.http://new.livestream.com/WorldChess/Round6
